BIOCHEMIC MEDICINE

The Healing Therapy of Dr. W. H. Schuessler

Continually more and more people are turning to the Biochemic method of healing. It is easy to comprehend, easy to learn and to top it all off inexpensive. Mineral salts are vital. We commence our story in the year 1873. The General Homoeopathic Journal “Nr.12“ publishes an article entitled “A shortened Homoeopathic Therapy“ – written by the practitioner Dr. (med) Wilhelm Heinrich Schuessler from Oldenburg. He provokes great excitement amongst his Homoeopathic colleagues. However, Schuessler merely wrote down and published the findings of his experiments.

Inspired by the work of the Dutch Physiologist Jacob Moleschott (1812-1893) who realised that phosphor is important for the nerve cells and who

coined the phrase “without phosphor no thought“ (Cycle of Life 1852) – Today we know the phosphate compound under the name of Lecithin, a very effective substance for memory disorders. Schuessler came to the conclusion that missing inorganic mineral salts will cause disruption to the living processes and therefore create illnesses. This results in an inhibition of the cell metabolism. If the missing mineral is supplied the disrupted cell metabolism starts working properly again. Rudolf Virchow (1821-1902) Professor of pathology at the Charite in Berlin points out in his Master work “Cellular pathology“ (1858) – “that finally every form of suffering is only based on a disorder in the cells. Only the cell can become sick – the cell, the smallest functioning unit of the human body“.

The inorganic plant substances (agricultural biochemics) have already found their use in agriculture. “Accordingly my therapy is an analogy to the agricultural chemistry. It is exactly the same, and every farmer knows, if sick plants, when fertilized with a solution of the appropriate mineral salt can be brought to thrive, I cure the sick tissues by supplementing molecules of an inorganic salt which is homogen to that, that caused the questioned illness through its functional disorder.“

More than a thousand children suffering Diptheria who had been given up for dead were cured by the use of his Mineral therapies.

Schuessler confirmed the research results of Moleschott: “A person can only remain healthy as long as he obtains the necessary minerals in the necessary quantity and the correct proportion" - further

stating, “that with Calcium, Sodium, Potassium, Magnesium and Ferrum in their compound with Phosphoric acid, Sulfuric acid, and Chloride all illnesses that are curable can be cured with this method.“ This statement is of course true today only in a limited sense. It would be more accurate to say “They help to cure all deseases that can be cured, and in particular they help to regulate constitutional disturbances“.

Over many years Kurt Hickethier (1891–1958) a great believer in Biochemic healing methods, observed, studied and noted changes to facial skin which characterized the lack of various mineral salts in the system. He detailed this “signature“ doctrine, which Schuessler had started to develop in his research. At a very early stage Schuessler had realised that internal metabolic disorders will reflect externally, for instance in changes to the facial skin, the eyes, nails and tongue.

The simple logic of Schuessler's theory (proven by the Biologist Guenther Stahlkopf in 1972) is:

1. The human body contains twelve essential mineral (tissue) salts, a correct balance of which must be maintained in order to ensure normal cell function and the maintenance of good health.

2. Any disruption to this balance – and we have a situation we call “illness“.

3. A normal balance of these vital mineral salts can be re-established with the administration of the deficient mineral in a readily assimilated form, which passes rapidly into the bloodstream and therefore the cells.

Contrary to popular belief biochemic therapies are not homoeopathic remedies – but in order to possess the functional indication the mineral salts have to be “potentized,“ this is achieved by using the rules of homoeopathic preparation. This form of medicine is about – diagnosing which mineral salt(s) are lacking in the body – establishing the cause – treating by temporarily supplementing the required mineral(s) – the idea is to stimulate the cells, in order they again start to absorb their necessary minerals from the diet in order to keep up the internal consistency.

During the era of natural Sciences, these fundamentals were improved upon with the help of Biology, Medicine, Physiology and Chemistry. Nowadays they are all part of common biochemics. It is a comprehensive discipline, the knowledge of the basic legitimacy of life, where every change, illness intellectual achievement and spiritual movement is connected with a specific chemical transformation of the cells, both internally and externally. The mineral substances playing a major role in these biochemic processes. The work of the Clinical Biochemist we refer to today, is to normalise the disturbed chemical balance of an organism. Schuessler's decision to call his new therapy “Biochemic“ must therefore be seen as a historical one.

Dr. Schuessler died in Oldenburg on the 30th March 1898 at the age of 76, however the story of this eminent Doctor, dedicated researcher and the Mineral Therapies did not end there . . . it had just begun! . . . his work continues throughout Europe and many other countries of the world.

On the 17th July 1885 the first Biochemic Association was founded in Oldenburg, today, with Headquarters situated in Germany the Institute has over 70 branches and Education facilities. The Academy of Biochemic Medicine Asia Pacific founded in July 2000 now has presence covering the Asia Pacific Region.
